The track finds the duo returning to their dancefloor roots; its infectious bassline harkens back to the disco-meets-electrofunk sound of Fancy Footwork, the album that catapulted Chromeo onto the worldwide stage. But vocally, they sound fresher and more confident than ever as Dave 1 waxes about the perks of mature, committed relationships: “let’s talk about loyalty instead of lawyer fees.” Whereas Chromeo is usually known for succinct song structure, here, the duo lets loose and “(I Don’t Need A) New Girl” segues into an extended, explosive instrumental section, highlighting their current collaboration with legendary producer Morgan Geist on mixing duties.
