Canadian indie-pop powerhouse Yukon Blonde will release Shuggie – their first full-length album since the 2020 critically acclaimed LP Vindicator – on October 12 via Dine Alone Records. Hey Major—multi-instrumentalist brothers Mickaël Fortin and Raphaël Fortin—release a driving new single “M.I.A (Missing In Action)” today, ahead of their sophomore album, Down The Ride, out September 22nd on Indica Records. “M.I.A” speaks on the challenges of unrequited love and the strain that it puts on a relationship. “In an era where love can be forced and found everywhere, we’ve all experienced waiting for answers,” the duo says. “Missing in action after a night spent together. Missing in action after opening yourself to someone else. We all have limits to our patience and devotion.”
Further to climbing the charts with her latest summer single “Little Things”, today, Jorja Smith has
unveiled her third offering of 2023 in the form of “GO GO GO”; a propulsive indie-adjacent track that nods to Jorja’s
teen love of groups like Jaws, The Kooks and Bombay Bicycle Club. “‘GO GO GO’ is kind of a f-you song. Why do people
have to kiss and tell, kind of vibe.” she candidly states. “I’m in my little alternative bag, but I’ve always kind of been in
it. People might be like, ‘I didn’t expect this’, but I’m like: ‘well, I would!’”
With two days to go until his sophomore album Mammoth II is available worldwide via BMG, Mammoth WVH – the brainchild of Wolfgang Van Halen – is releasing a music video for another
song from the album. The next single “I’m Alright” is another rocker featuring a driving drumbeat, a hypnotic piano riff and a blistering guitar solo that features his uncle – Patrick Bertinelli – on wah pedal operation. The lines “Sorry – I’m so sorry – It’s kind of you to say – F@#k off and back away and let me breathe” are sentiments that are relatable to anyone and given extra bite with Wolfgang’s pointed delivery. The music video picks up after the video for “Another Celebration at the End of the World” where the former band of Wolfgangs – who have been fired from Mammoth WVH – start their own band Mammoth WWW and enter the same Battle of the Bands as Mammoth WVH. Hearing the band rehearsing “I’m Alright,” Mammoth WWW steals the song from Mammoth WVH to surprising results. Keeping it in the family on “I’m Alright,” Wolfgang’s mother -legendary actress and chef Valerie Bertinelli – also makes a cameo appearance in the video. The video marks the third video with director Gordy De St. Jeor and can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/uy0mCPvGFeY
