Biography

Since their inception, cleopatrick, made up of Cobourg, ON natives Luke Gruntz and Ian Fraser, have proved themselves to be one of the most in-demand rising rock bands on the planet. They were the sole band featured in Amazon Music UK’s Ones To Watch 2021 and have amassed over 100 million streams, alongside a string of sold-out tours across Canada, the US, UK, and EU. Their electrifying performances at renowned festivals and their direct support role for Royal Blood in Canada and the US solidify their place in the rock pantheon.  Their explosive debut album, BUMMER (2021), not only earned a JUNO nomination for 'Breakthrough Group of the Year' but also set the tone for their meteoric rise in the music scene. Praised by Exclaim! as “a solid high-energy debut,” the album features standout tracks like the raw, distortion-heavy anthem THE DRAKE” (which landed the talented duo on Spotify’s marquee New Music Friday Billboard at Yonge and Dundas Square in Toronto), crowd favourite “FAMILY VAN,” (video game,  PowerPoint Presentation, official video), the riff-packed “GOOD GRIEF and the hauntingly beautiful2008”. In 2022, cleopatrick soared to new heights, winning a SOCAN Award in the Rock category for their Top 5 Canadian and U.S radio hit and breakout single, “hometown.” They complemented their success with the release of their DOOM EP which featured five gritty, fuzz-filled tracks, including the clever and catchy “OK” (WATCH | LISTEN) and the emotionally charged “SCARING ME.” (WATCH | LISTEN) With their bold sophomore album FAKE MOON released earlier this year, cleopatrick entered a thrilling new creative chapter. Recorded in Brooklyn with visionary producer Philip Weinrobe (Adrianne Lenker, Hand Habits) and featuring acclaimed guitarist Mike Haldeman, FAKE MOON reflects a more experimental, collaborative approach. Featuring the dynamic singles, “HAMMER, “PLEASE", “BAD GUY” and “HEAT DEATH”, FAKE MOON embraces imperfections and instinct, channeling a raw aesthetic, described as the audio equivalent of early PlayStation 1 graphics, while showcasing a refined, evolved sound. Guided by the mantra “if it feels good, it sounds good,” the record marks a fearless step forward for the duo, pushing sonic boundaries without abandoning their DIY roots. Just weeks after the release of FAKE MOON, cleopatrick surprised fans with “TALK DOWN,” a gritty track that cemented their status as one of rock’s most innovative and unpredictable forces. From viral hits to genre-defying albums, cleopatrick continue to carve out their own lane, proving that rock's future is not only alive but thriving in the hands of a new generation.
