Indie pop band TANDM’s songs seem to transcend time, place, and even stylistic categorization. They unveil “The Man in the Sea” today, an emotive single inspired by a poem that vocalist/guitarist Maxine Beck-Sinderby had written as an assignment when she was in high school. Charming in their sweet simplicity, the Toronto duo’s music is effortlessly compelling thanks to graceful melodies, heartfelt lyricism, and syncopated synergy.

AMAARA’s striking debut LP Child of Venus is a bold and unforgettable collection from Canadian-born singer, songwriter, producer, filmmaker and actor Kaelen Ohm (she/they). Classic-era dream pop at its core, the album draws influence from jazz, R&B and folk music with reverb drenched guitars, soaring synths, layered vocal harmonies and expansive percussion. Approached with cheeky lyrics and an 80s pop vibe, AMAARA’s lead single “New Love’s Mortal Coil” is out today alongside a stunning self-directed official video.
17-year-old indie pop prodigy AVIV has released an introspective new single titled “Jimmy’s House” for which Wonderland Magazine proclaims, “Themes of jealousy and disappointment are told with such sincerity and intimacy, evoking deep emotion in anyone who listens. Writing relatable concepts with far reaching sounds, AVIV lets people into her world — and they’re bound to stick around.” Produced by Robbie Lackritz (Peach Pit, Alvvays, Feist, Bahamas) and co-written with Jackson Phillips (also known as Day Wave), it’s filmed in an unexpected setting—an alpaca farm—and accompanied by a music video directed by Ryan Faist, also known as the artist boy wonder. She is currently on the road with joan and Hariette on a North American tour that stops in Toronto tonight at the Velvet Underground. Tickets are available HERE.
Revered indie rock outfit Jane’s Party release “Ships On An Ocean” today, their first single following the 2022 release of their LP, Live Again. They also announce a Toronto show on June 1 with Ferraro, presented by Indie88 at Horseshoe Tavern. Tickets are available HERE. The song title pays homage to the line “ships that pass in the night,” from the poem “Tales of a Wayside Inn” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Tom Ionesu (guitar/vocals) found inspiration in “the idea that we can come so close to one another for a brief period of time, and then just sail off into the night. I thought it really captured a lethargic and hopeless feeling that the main character in the song takes on. The metaphor helped me get inside that perspective and to write from that place.”
